Bowburn Banners

In 2004, members of Bowburn LHS helped form the Bowburn Banner Group, which became an independent charity the following year – though we remain close partners.

The Banner Group has two original Bowburn Miners’ Lodge banners, one from 1920 and one from 1959, which have been repaired and conserved, and are now on permanent display in Bowburn Community Centre.  So also are an original community banner and a children’s banner, both of which were unfurled in Bowburn’s Centenary year, 2006, and which are paraded annually at the Durham Miners’ Gala, and at other community events and heritage events.

All four banners are kept in Bowburn Community Centre, together with the 1985 Tursdale NUM Mechanics’ banner, which is on long-term loan.
